Parents trust dentist in Greensboro, NC to provide trusted care for child’s first dental exam

You have watched and cared for your child as they have begun to hit new milestones each day. One milestone you may soon be adding to your list is the first dental appointment. Dr. Sona Isharani and her team at Triad Pediatric Dentistry welcome you to their practice and will strive to provide an experience that leaves both you and your kids feeling comfortable, safe, and cared for during their first dental visit.

Kids First Dental Visit in Greensboro area

Your child’s first visit to the dentist should occur once you see that first tooth emerge and no later than his or her first birthday. You may think that is incredibly early for a dental appointment, but the fact is that even the very first tooth can get a cavity. Proactive action regarding your child’s oral health will help ensure a healthy smile for life.

Preparing for the first visit

It will be beneficial for all involved if you can get your child prepared for that first visit. There are several things you can do to help prepare for this, including:

  • Talk to your child about the first visit in a positive tone. Even if they can’t yet understand, having a positive attitude throughout the process is beneficial.
  • Practice opening and closing of the mouth in preparation of when the dentist asks them to open wide to count and check teeth.
  • Educational materials such as books and videos can help with your child being less fearful of the experience if they are facing any dental anxieties

Parents can prepare for the experience also. When you call and make an appointment, make sure and ask for any necessary patient forms so that the process can be quick and easy on the day of. You can spend time in the waiting room focused on your child rather than filling out the forms if you get them ahead of time and filled out at home. Also, make sure to have a list of questions ready to ask your dentist. You may need advice if your child is currently teething, sucking on his or her thumb or relying too heavily on a pacifier.

The visit

Your child’s first dental visit will consist of an exam to make sure that the teeth and jaw are developing correctly. Don’t worry parents, you’ll be right there with your child so that they have that familiarity and comfort that only you can provide. Other things that will be checked include signs of cavities or mouth injuries. Once the exam has ended, you’ll be given tips and instructions (if needed) to ensure that your child’s oral health can be maintained.

Dr. Sona Isharani and her team at Triad Pediatric Dentistry are valued members of the community and would be so pleased if you trusted them with the oral health of your child. Please give them a call at (336) 804-8668 to schedule that first appointment.
