Preparing for the first visit
It will be beneficial for all involved if you can get your child prepared for that first visit. There are several things you can do to help prepare for this, including:

- Practice opening and closing of the mouth in preparation of when the dentist asks them to open wide to count and check teeth.
- Educational materials such as books and videos can help with your child being less fearful of the experience if they are facing any dental anxieties
Parents can prepare for the experience also. When you call and make an appointment, make sure and ask for any necessary patient forms so that the process can be quick and easy on the day of. You can spend time in the waiting room focused on your child rather than filling out the forms if you get them ahead of time and filled out at home. Also, make sure to have a list of questions ready to ask your dentist. You may need advice if your child is currently teething, sucking on his or her thumb or relying too heavily on a pacifier.

Don’t worry parents, you’ll be right there with your child so that they have that familiarity and comfort that only you can provide.
