We treat children like children, not just small adults!
Safely and effectively preventing and treating your child’s dental disease often requires modifying his or her behavior. No one is better equipped to do this than a Board-certified pediatric dentist like Dr. Sona. Behavior guidance, as it’s called, is based on scientific principles — and so much more. It requires unique skills cultivated by speaking with and listening to young patients on a day-to-day basis. Dr. Sona also works with you, the parent or caregiver, to select the technique that’s best to ease fears or promote feel-good associations about dentists and dental visits. Children carry these warm, fuzzy feelings with them. There is sure to be a method that makes a difference for your little one, including:
  • Tell-show-do involves simple explanations of treatment, customized to child’s age and understanding
  • Distraction accomplished with in-office TV, conversation, and a little sleight-of-hand, keeping those unpleasant dental instruments out of sight!
  • Every kid does something right during the visit, so positive reinforcement is a must
Dr. Sona has another ally in the form of calming medications tailored to your child. We welcome your questions and concerns! Call 336-804-8668.

Is your pantry stocked with cavity-fighters?
Threats to dental health strike Grandma and grandchild alike. But decay and tooth loss can be particularly devastating early in life. Just because baby teeth fall out doesn’t mean they are unimportant. In fact, they guide permanent teeth into proper position. Without them, we see braces in your child’s future!

Foods can either fight or foster tooth loss, and many options that keep your body healthy and fit are also “tooth-friendly.” At your next appointment, Dr. Sona and her team are more than happy to discuss your child’s diet with you. Consider:
  • Limiting snacks to no more than 3 times a day
  • Opting for healthier snacks like yogurt and peanut butter
  • Minimizing “fun foods” and cooked starches like potato chips that take longer to clear the mouth than sugars
  • Avoid stocking up on long-lasting candies and discourage sipping carbonated or sweetened drinks, which promote acids that eat away at tooth minerals
Dental health often depends less on what your family eats and more on how often they eat it. No food should be vilified, but some products are best when limited, while other foods like aged cheddar and swiss cheese actually promote remineralization of enamel. Call 336-804-8668.
Patient Reviews
Smart & Professional

" My almost 5 year old daughter has been seeing Dr. Isharani since she was two. Dr. Isharani has always provided wonderful care. She and her staff create a comfortable environment. The hygienist is gentle. There are monitors on the ceiling and kids choose what they would like to watch while getting their teeth cleaned. Dr. Isharani is so knowledgeable, up to date on the latest procedures and technology, and communicates well to parents. I have always liked how she explains things to me and makes recommendations. Top notch practice. I have seen other dentists in the area and I highly recommend Dr. Isharani. "
