Pediatric Dental Office in Greensboro shares tips for making your child’s first checkup and each visit after that a success

We know that you want the absolute best for your child and that includes healthy teeth and gums. As a pediatric dental office, we want to be a partner in your child’s oral health. The following tips can help make that first visit, along with every other visit, a success.

child’s first checkup to dentist, Pediatric Dental Office Greensboro

Tip #1: Schedule the visit after the first tooth erupts or by their first birthday

Baby teeth are more susceptible to tooth decay than adult teeth, because they are more porous, so it’s important to have early dental care once they start to emerge. During this appointment, we’ll do a basic check of the mouth and gums (often with the child in your lap).

Tip # 2: Talk to your children about oral health

Kids love learning about their bodies. You teach them to find their eyes and point to their belly button, so it’s only natural to teach them about their teeth. Singing songs and reading books about teeth and tooth brushing from an early age helps them become comfortable with their mouth.

Tip #3: Practice, practice, practice

Make tooth brushing a fun, family activity, involving parents and siblings. You can set the right example for your young child. When your child is old enough, allow them to start exhibiting independence and brush by themselves and then allow you to “finish up”.

Tip #4: Model good behavior

Children often mimic the attitude and behavior of their parents. If you are relaxed and positive about visiting the dentist, it will make the experience much less intimidating.

At our Greensboro office, we have a fun, child-friendly environment with a compassionate and experienced staff. We are here to make your child’s first visit and every subsequent one a success, so feel free to call us and ask any questions you may have.
